Updated Rules for U10s - Little League as discussed at coaches meeting on October 8th 2009.
U10: as per BQ rules:
(see 'Baseball Queensland Rules' under 'Development' pulldown menu at http://www.qld.baseball.com.au/ for Sept 2009 version)
- emphasize that coaches to pitch flat trajectory pitches
- emphasize that players fielding a ball throw to the appropriate base for an out, not run to the base unless they are the closest player
- in second half of season, players to start pitching (to their own team)
U12 LL Minors:
As per BQ rules, with the following modifications to foster hitting and fielding
- no walks: after a batter reaches 4 balls, the player will retain the strike count and the batter's coach will pitch from the pitcher's rubber (or slightly closer if needed for accurate pitches!). If the batter reaches three strikes (foul balls are treated normally), they are out.
- the batter, and any runners on base, can only advance one base on a hit off a coach pitch (to encourage batters to hit player-pitches)
- the ball is in play when hit off a coach pitch, so outs can be made by the fielders
- no stealing or advancing on past balls off a coach pitch.
When a player is pitching, BQ rules apply:
- may advance a base on passed balls
- may score on passed balls
- may steal once the ball has crossed the plate (but stop with a lead of >6 runs, and 'suicide stealing' to induce an overthrow not allowed)
- no dropped third strike
Competition points will not be awarded during the first half of the season to foster development of pitching. Points will begin in Round 8 (Dec 5).
U12 LL Majors:
As per BQ rules, without modifications
- may advance a base on passed balls
- may score on passed balls
- may steal once the ball has crossed the plate (but stop with a lead of >6 runs, and 'suicide stealing' to induce an overthrow not allowed)
- no dropped third strike
Use all your players in the batting lineup; lineup remains the same when fielding substitutions are made.
Please contact Greg Morriss (RDC) or myself, if there are any questions.
